Why nutrition should be part of your pre-surgery advice

Why nutrition should be part of your pre-surgery advice

Zara Stella explains how optimising nutrition ahead of dental surgery provides a functional approach to better healing.

Dental surgery, whether implant placement, extractions or bone grafting, is a physical stressor that requires a sound immune system and tissue repair capacity. Yet, the nutritional status of patients is often overlooked in the lead-up to these procedures, despite growing evidence that even subclinical deficiencies can impair recovery, increase infection risk and delay wound healing.

In my experience, integrating targeted, pre-surgical nutritional support into patient care can enhance outcomes, not just for healing, but also for patient satisfaction, compliance, and long-term oral and general health.
